Transformation: The Workers, The Westport Library

My goal in documenting the transformation of The Westport Library over the past two years was to focus on the people who applied their craftsmanship and skills to turn the concept of change into reality. In the process of photographing the construction site, almost daily over this period, I learned about the great pride the workers took in the quality of their performance, and their impressive ability to problem-solve. The transformation of the library was a hands-on operation during a time when so much of our work is reliant on technology.

I wanted to capture the sense of authenticity of the workers' process. One day on site, I heard a craftsman remark, “Some day when I’m walking through this library with a grandchild, I can say with pride that I helped build this place.”
